This product is a potent and highly selective 5-HT3 receptor antagonist with strong antiemetic effects. Chemotherapy drugs and radiation therapy can cause the small intestine to release 5-HT, which activates the afferent branch of the vagus nerve through 5-HT3 receptors, triggering the vomiting reflex. This product can block the triggering of this reflex. The activation of the vagus nerve afferent branch can also trigger the release of 5-HT located in the Postrema area at the bottom of the fourth ventricle, which is strengthened through central mechanisms. This product exerts antiemetic effects on nausea and vomiting caused by chemotherapy and radiotherapy by antagonizing 5-HT receptors located in the peripheral and central nervous system. The mechanism of postoperative nausea and vomiting is unclear, but it may be induced through a common pathway similar to cytotoxic induced nausea and vomiting. This product can also inhibit nausea induced by opioids, but its mechanism of action is still unclear. Due to its high selectivity, this product does not have the side effects of other antiemetic drugs, such as extrapyramidal reactions, excessive sedation, etc.

Usage and dosage
For vomiting caused by highly emetic chemotherapy drugs: intravenous injection of 8mg of ondansetron hydrochloride injection 15 minutes before chemotherapy, 4 hours after chemotherapy, and 8 hours after chemotherapy, and oral administration of 8mg of ondansetron hydrochloride tablets every 8 hours after stopping chemotherapy, for 5 consecutive days.
