This medicine is an analgesic (it relieves pain) an d an antipyretic( it lowers fever).

PHARMACODYNAMICS

Paracetamol injection provides onset of pain relief within 5 to 10 minutes after the start of administration The peak analgesic effect is obtained in 1 hour and the duration of this effect is usually 4 to 6 hours.

Paracetamol injection reduces fever within 30 minutes after the start of administration with duration of the antipyretic effect of at least 6 hours.

USES

It is indicated for the short-term treatment of moderate pain, especially following surgery, and for the short-term treatment of fever.

ROUTE & DOSAGE

Intravenous use, Leave an interval of at least 4 hours between administrations.

Adolescents and adults weighing more than 50 kg: 1g of paracetamol per administration, i. e. a 100ml vial up to 4 times a day.The maximum dose must not exceed 4g of paracetamol per day.

Children weighing more than 33kg( about 11 years old)but less than 50 kg:15mg/kg paracetamol per administration. i.e. 1.5ml solution per kg, up to 4 times a day. The maximum dose must not exceed 60 mg paracetamol per kg and per day (without exceeding 3g).

No safety and efficacy date are available for premature neonates.

Children weighing more than 10kg( approximately 1 years old )but less than 33kg: Paracetamol 15mg/kg per administration, i.e. 1.5ml solution per kg up to four times a day. The maximum daily dose must not exceed 60mg/kg (without exceeding 2g).

CONTRAINDICATIONS

People who are allergic ( hypersensitive )to paracetamol, or to any other analgesic for infusion and a precursor of paracetamol, or suffer from a severe liver disease.
